January 2021
Virtual Event - Specification Formats and Processes
- Date: Thursday, January 21, 2021
- Time: 12:15-1:30pm
- Speakers: Dave Stutzman
AIA Owner-Architect agreements require the design team to produce written design documentation during each design phase. Understanding the requirements, the expected content, and the purpose of each document is key to meeting the architect's contractual obligations.
This course reviews the architect's contractual requirements for documenting design intent, products and systems, and project quality during each design phase and the tools available to help produce each required document. Reliance on recognized industry standards governing each type of document ensures a uniform structure to promote efficient communication of project design to the owner and construction requirements to the contractor. The formal information structure allows nearly instant data retrieval when needed to address questions, especially during the construction administration phase.

February 2021
An Introduction To The Well Building Standard
- Date: Thursday, February 18, 2021
- Time: 12:15-1:30pm

An Introduction to WELL provides an overview of the WELL Building Standard framework and certification process. The WELL Building Standard™ version 2 (WELL v2™) is a vehicle for buildings and organizations to deliver more thoughtful and intentional spaces that enhance human health and well-being. WELL v2 includes a set of strategies—backed by the latest scientific research—that aim to advance human health through design interventions and operational protocols and policies and foster a culture of health and wellness. Built upon the pioneering foundation of the first version of the WELL Building Standard (WELL v1), WELL v2 draws expertise from a diverse community of WELL users, practitioners, public health professionals and building scientists around the world. This presentation will introduce how the WELL Building Standard as the framework to transform buildings and organizations in ways that advance health and well-being to help people thrive.
Learning Objectives:

Smart buildings, integrated building technology, and the Internet of things (IoT) are hot buzz words today. But what do they mean? And more importantly, how does all this integration make healthcare buildings better? This course will explain the concepts of integrated building technology and define the fundamental design philosophy and components necessary for a truly interactive healthcare facility. Through case studies, we explore opportunities offered by a mobile device platform for improved occupant experience and operational savings over traditional facilities. We will identify potential revenue streams for integrated facilities and demonstrate their advantages to clients and facility operators.
